Your engine has to operate at a high temperature to work effectively. Excess heat can damage critical parts of your engine. To prevent this, your Lincoln has an efficient cooling system centered on the radiator. If your radiator is worn or damaged, you'll need a radiator repair at your Lincoln dealer. These are some of the signs your radiator could be damaged. Signs You Need a Radiator Repair at Your Lincoln Dealer Damaged Radiator Cap The cooling system is highly pressurized to operate at high speed. The radiator cap is situated on top of the radiator and controls the system pressure. Due to the high pressure in the system, the cap is securely attached and protected by two seals to ensure a perfect airtight seal. If the pressure in the system rises too high, the cap opens to bleed off the excess pressure and then closes. In time, the heat and pressure can damage the seals, and coolant can leak out. This leak not only loses coolant but also drops the pressure and slows down the cooling system. If you examine the cap and see white streaks, this is a sign of coolant leaking. We can fix this problem by testing the cap and seals and installing new ones if necessary. Coolant Leak Coolant is a mixture of water and antifreeze. Its job is to shift the heat generated by your engine into the radiator. It does this by flowing through the engine and absorbing heat radiating from the hot engine components. When the coolant reaches the radiator, it enters the radiator tubes and is rapidly cooled as air flows over the tubes. A coolant leak disrupts this process and can cause your engine to overheat. A loss of coolant reduces the speed and amount of heat that can be absorbed. As the heat level in the engine increases, your engine temperature will rise. Coolant can leak from various places, including worn hoses, a cracked radiator, or the radiator cap that was mentioned above. We'll find the source of the leak and seal it. Loose Hose Clamps The radiator is connected to the rest of your cooling system by two rubber hoses, one and the top and the other at the bottom of the radiator. These hoses are made from toughened rubber and are designed to withstand high temperatures for prolonged periods. The hoses are securely attached to the radiator by strong metal clamps. The subtle movements in the engine caused by driving can loosen one or both of these clamps, and coolant will spill out. This causes an immediate increase in engine temperature. Your Lincoln's transmission has many moving parts that transfer power from the engine to the driveshaft to turn the wheels. For your Navigator, Aviator, or Corsair to function correctly, your transmission must be in good condition. You might have noticed a drop in your Lincoln's ordinarily flawless engine function and handling. Perhaps this was accompanied by an unpleasant sulfury smell and a rattling sound from below. These odd phenomena could be signs of a faulty catalytic converter. Let's look in detail at three indications that your cat is in trouble, so you know when to visit your Lincoln dealer to have it fixed or replaced. Your Engine's Clearly Struggling A malfunctioning converter starts to inhibit the exit of air and fumes from your exhaust system. This backs up the flow of air throughout the engine, which means the combustion chambers aren't getting enough fresh oxygen. As a result, you'll experience a variety of engine problems. Reduced Acceleration When you press on the gas pedal, you might notice you're not speeding up anywhere near as quickly as you should be. To compensate, the engine will often inject excess fuel, some of which will go unburned. This excess unburned fuel might start escaping out of your tailpipe. If this happens, you'll see thick black smoke in your rearview mirror. You Can Smell Rotten Eggs One of the toxic emissions a healthy cat cleans up is hydrogen sulfide. This particular gas has an awful sulfury smell, rather like that of rotten eggs. If you can smell eggs in your cabin, roll down all the windows and drive your car straight to a dealership. Hydrogen sulfide is a very dangerous gas to breathe. You Hear Metallic Rattling From Below A damaged cat often causes a loud rattling sound. If the converter is jolted loose in its brackets, it will shake around, making a noise. This problem can often be fixed quite easily by screwing and welding the brackets back into place. But if the internal mesh workings of the cat have been broken by a jolt or denting blow, then you'll probably need a new converter. Strange Noises If the AC unit is suffering from wear and tear, or loose debris in the system, it may make odd noises when you switch it on. Water Marks When the outlet pipe from the AC system becomes blocked, it can result in leaks in your car, putting your upholstery at risk. If you're in Detroit, MI, you don't have to drive far to find fun things to do. A wealth of summertime activities await kids and adults alike in the Motor City. We've rounded up some of our favorites below. Paddling Tour If you're looking for something different, consider taking a Detroit River paddling tour! Grab a few friends and your spacious 2022 Lincoln Aviator and make the trip to Detroit River Sports at the Fisherman's Marina in Detroit. The 2022 Aviator will get you there in style and unsurpassed comfort with three rows, a handcrafted interior, and plenty of cargo space. A private two-hour guided tour with Detroit River Sports will take you kayaking on the Detroit River, past the Fisher Mansion to Harbor Island. Detroit River Sports also offers additional tours, including the popular Historic Canal Tour, a sunset tour with gorgeous views of downtown Detroit, and a night tour in September and October. Detroit Jazz Festival The Detroit Jazz Festival is one of the most popular events in the city. Held annually over Labor Day weekend, this festival attracts more than 300,000 visitors and offers free admission. The festival was established in 1980 and has been held annually since then. If you want to experience some excellent jazz music firsthand, then Detroit Jazz Festival is definitely worth checking out! It usually lasts for four days and features performances by renowned jazz musicians. Most of the events are held outdoors at Hart Plaza. Henry Ford Museum The Henry Ford Museum is a great place to take the kids this summer. Located in Dearborn, Michigan, the museum has lots of interactive exhibits and activities for kids, including a replica of Thomas Edison's lab where you can play with old-timey gadgets and learn about how they were made. There are also exhibits on transportation history, featuring over 100 cars, and displays about aviation and space travel. Hiking Trails Urban and rural hiking trails are a great way to get outside and explore the area. In Detroit, you can find hiking trails on Belle Isle, which lies just off the Detroit River. The island is home to various wildlife and plants, including waterfowl, owls, and many birds. There are two trails, one of which loops around Belle Isle. The Belle Isle Loop trail offers stunning views and is excellent for bike riding. It is also a popular trail for birding. SEA LIFE Michigan Aquarium If you're looking for something fun to do, check out the SEA LIFE Michigan aquarium. This interactive aquarium is home to over 2,000 animals from more than 250 aquatic species, including sharks, turtles, stingrays, and sea horses. The SEA LIFE Michigan Aquarium also has a variety of other attractions that are sure to delight kids of all ages.
