These are examples of some engine issues we can fix. Blocked Catalytic Converter The catalytic converter plays an important role in your car. It converts harmful chemicals produced by combustion into harmless ones. It does this by using a combination of extreme pressure, high temperatures, and chemical reactions. Exhaust gases flow out of your engine, are converted in the converter, and then exit the tailpipe. Carbon is a natural element generated in the conversion process. Over time, carbon can build up in the converter and block the exit into the exhaust system. If this happens, the exhaust gases are forced back into your engine. These gases increase the pressure in the engine. The increased pressure can cause your engine to stall. Our technicians can remove your converter and clear any blockages to fix this problem. Poor Compression The combustion process requires compressing the fuel-air mixture. This compression increases the energy that is released when the spark plug ignites the mixture. The compression is generated by the piston rising at speed in an airtight cylinder. A cylinder must be completely sealed during the process, as additional air will reduce pressure. The constant series of controlled explosions in a cylinder and the high pressure can lead to wear and tear. The seals that make the cylinder airtight can become damaged, allowing air into the cylinder. Piston rings can become worn, which also reduces the ability to produce compression. We'll examine your cylinders and other components to locate the source of the problem. Clogged Radiator Your radiator's function is to act as a heat exchange for heat generated by the engine. The liquid coolant absorbs heat as it flows through your engine. The heat is then transported in the coolant into the radiator tubes. Cool air blows in through the radiator grille and removes the heat as it passes over the tubes. The now cool coolant is then circulated through the engine again. Coolant also absorbs dirt, tiny metal fragments, rust particles, and other engine debris. This debris is brought into the radiator with the coolant and is deposited at the bottom of the radiator when the coolant flows out. Debris will slowly build up in the radiator and clog its tubes and pipes. A clogged radiator can quickly cause your engine to overheat. We can flush the radiator to remove any debris.
