Detroit Jazz Festival

If you’re in Detroit, MI, you don’t have to drive far to find fun things to do. A wealth of summertime activities await kids and adults alike in the Motor City. We’ve rounded up some of our favorites below.

Paddling Tour

If you’re looking for something different, consider taking a Detroit River paddling tour! Grab a few friends and your spacious 2022 Lincoln Aviator and make the trip to Detroit River Sports at the Fisherman’s Marina in Detroit. The 2022 Aviator will get you there in style and unsurpassed comfort with three rows, a handcrafted interior, and plenty of cargo space.

A private two-hour guided tour with Detroit River Sports will take you kayaking on the Detroit River, past the Fisher Mansion to Harbor Island. Detroit River Sports also offers additional tours, including the popular Historic Canal Tour, a sunset tour with gorgeous views of downtown Detroit, and a night tour in September and October.

Detroit Jazz Festival

The Detroit Jazz Festival is one of the most popular events in the city. Held annually over Labor Day weekend, this festival attracts more than 300,000 visitors and offers free admission. The festival was established in 1980 and has been held annually since then.

If you want to experience some excellent jazz music firsthand, then Detroit Jazz Festival is definitely worth checking out! It usually lasts for four days and features performances by renowned jazz musicians. Most of the events are held outdoors at Hart Plaza.

Henry Ford Museum

The Henry Ford Museum is a great place to take the kids this summer. Located in Dearborn, Michigan, the museum has lots of interactive exhibits and activities for kids, including a replica of Thomas Edison’s lab where you can play with old-timey gadgets and learn about how they were made. There are also exhibits on transportation history, featuring over 100 cars, and displays about aviation and space travel.

Hiking Trails

Urban and rural hiking trails are a great way to get outside and explore the area. In Detroit, you can find hiking trails on Belle Isle, which lies just off the Detroit River. The island is home to various wildlife and plants, including waterfowl, owls, and many birds.

There are two trails, one of which loops around Belle Isle. The Belle Isle Loop trail offers stunning views and is excellent for bike riding. It is also a popular trail for birding.

SEA LIFE Michigan Aquarium

If you’re looking for something fun to do, check out the SEA LIFE Michigan aquarium. This interactive aquarium is home to over 2,000 animals from more than 250 aquatic species, including sharks, turtles, stingrays, and sea horses.

The SEA LIFE Michigan Aquarium also has a variety of other attractions that are sure to delight kids of all ages. There’s even an underwater tunnel where kids can walk around with sharks swimming overhead!
