Detroiters who want to escape city life have a choice of magnificent state parks to explore, each with its unique natural beauty, just a short drive away from the city. When you hit the road out of Detroit, MI, do it in a 2022 Lincoln Corsair that offers a stylish interior, excellent handling, and a powerful engine to enjoy a smooth, luxurious ride to some of the most scenic natural areas in Michigan.

1. Maybury State Park

Take a short 32-mile drive to 49601 Eight Mile Road in Northville to discover Michigan’s natural beauty in the 1,000-acre Maybury State Park. Explore the meadows and woodlands on foot or in the saddle and see wildflowers, birds, and animals along the way.

Find out more about farming in the early 1900s and watch how farmers extracted honey, harvested grain, and sheered sheep over a hundred years ago. You can also join the fascinating conservation programs hosted by naturalists to learn more about the park’s indigenous fauna and flora.

2. Dodge #4 State Park

Cass Lake’s one-mile-long beach is the ultimate spot close to the city to swim, paddle, boat, and fish. It takes just a 36.5-mile drive to laze the day away in the summer sun on the beach and swim in the cool water of the beautiful lake in Dodge #4 State Park at 4250 Parkway Street in Waterford Township.

The park rents an array of watercraft, and you can wet your hook to catch largemouth and smallmouth bass, trout, bluegill, and perch from the fishing pier, the shore, or a boat. Have a barbecue at one of the lovely picnic spots and stay for a few nights at a campsite or, if you prefer more comfort, in one of the cozy cabins, cottages, or lodges.

3. Sterling State Park

The 1,300-acre Sterling State Park at 2800 State Park Road in Monroe, 37.5 miles away, runs along the magnificent shores of Lake Erie and is the perfect getaway for Detroiters. Take a stroll along the sandy beach and hike down seven miles of winding trails. Here you can boat, paddle, and angle in one of the three fishing lagoons and enjoy a scenic picnic at one of the beautiful picnic spots under the trees along the beach.

4. Seven Lakes State Park

The beautiful 1,400-acre Seven Lakes State Park is a bit further away at 14390 Fish Lake Road in Holly, but the 56.9-mile drive is worth it to spend a peaceful day or a few nights surrounded by forested hills filled with bird and animal life. Wander down the marked trails into the forest or ride your mountain bike into the hills and paddle, boat, and fish for bass, bluegill, pike, tiger muskie, and catfish in the 170-acre Big Seven Lake.
