Most of your car’s systems depend on a constant and consistent supply of electricity. This means that electrical problems have a major impact on your Lincoln’s performance. Depending on the problem, your Lincoln might not be able to start or could shut down soon after starting up. Fortunately, Your Lincoln dealer can prevent these nightmare situations by fixing the problem. These are some electrical issues that we can fix.

Alternator Problems

Every driver knows about the battery, but the alternator doesn’t get the same level of publicity. The alternator’s job is to produce electricity for your car’s systems. When your engine is running, the alternator provides all the electrical power for your car and recharges your battery. It’s a relatively simple and hardy component and has an average lifespan of eight years.

As time passes, the alternator’s components gradually wear out, and this causes the alternator to produce less electricity. A healthy alternator should produce at least 14.5 volts under a full load. If your engine sensors detect a power output of 13.0 volts or less, your check battery light will illuminate, and random electrical glitches will appear. We’ll examine your alternator and repair it or replace it if necessary.

Battery Problems

The battery has the important functions of supplying power to start your engine and maintain the electrical system when your engine isn’t running. Despite its essential role in your engine, the battery has a relatively short life and will usually fail within three to five years. It normally fails as the chemicals that allow it to store and supply electricity gradually break down, which prevents the battery from storing electricity.

A battery’s life can also be reduced by extreme temperatures, corrosion, or a worn-out alternator. You’ll usually see signs that a battery is weakening as the headlight and interior lights will become dimmer when under battery power. In addition, starting your engine will take longer, and the battery warning light will illuminate to warn of trouble. Our technicians will test your battery and replace it if it’s failing.

Starter Problems

The starter motor in your engine causes the engine to crank, which begins the combustion process that allows your engine to operate under its own power. The starter depends on an electrical charge from the battery to power it, and this charge uses a large portion of your battery’s reserves.

The most common cause of failure is a damaged starter solenoid. The solenoid receives the electrical power from the battery and transfers it to the starter. If the solenoid fails, the starter motor won’t work, and your engine won’t crank and start. We can easily fix this by replacing the damaged solenoid.
