alternator repair

Your Lincoln’s transmission has many moving parts that transfer power from the engine to the driveshaft to turn the wheels. For your Navigator, Aviator, or Corsair to function correctly, your transmission must be in good condition. The seven signs below will warn you when your car needs a transmission repair from your Lincoln dealer to prevent further damage and high repair costs.

1. Illuminated Check Engine Light

A problem with your transmission will trigger the check engine warning light on your dashboard. When the check engine light goes on, call your dealer immediately for repairs to prevent further damage to your vehicle’s components.

2. Discolored and Contaminated Transmission Fluid

Transmission fluid should be bright red and have a smooth, syrupy consistency. Over time and with use, transmission fluid deteriorates and becomes cloudy and brown. The contaminated fluid can’t provide the internal components with adequate cooling and lubrication and could cause severe damage.

3. Leaking Transmission Fluid

If your car is leaking transmission fluid from a gasket or seal, you will notice reddish pools on the ground under your vehicle. Address leaks as soon as possible before the lack of fluid causes gear-shifting issues.

4. Loss of Power

If your engine is revving well and running normally, but your vehicle feels slow when you accelerate, blame the loss of power on a faulty transmission. Over time a manual transmission’s clutch wears down, causing the transmission to slip. Automatic transmissions slip when the transmission fluid is old and contaminated.

5. Hard Shifts, Shakes, and Jerks

When there’s not enough transmission fluid, or it’s old and dirty, it will affect your car’s gears and cause gear shifting issues. If you drive a manual, you will find it hard to shift into gear, and an automatic transmission’s gears will slip while you are driving. When you change gears, your car might even jerk or shake forward.

6. Burning Plastic Odors

Low or contaminated transmission fluid can’t lubricate or cool the moving transmission parts. The lack of transmission fluid will increase friction and cause overheating. When it gets too hot, you will smell a burning plastic odor.

7. Clunking, Grinding, and Buzzing Sounds

A faulty transmission makes awful noises. When a manual transmission malfunctions, it will make horrible clunking and grinding noises when you shift gears. Failing automatic transmissions make humming, whining, or buzzing sounds when something is wrong.

The signs mentioned above will warn you it’s time to get your vehicle to your Lincoln technician before your transmission problem gets out of hand and costs you even more to repair. If you hear strange noises, smell burning odors, spot leaks, or struggle to shift gears, call Bob Maxey Lincoln as soon as possible. The certified technicians will expertly repair your car’s transmission and ensure it is in perfect working order.
