The engine is the heart of your Lincoln. It’s a complex machine containing countless components that depend on friction to work effectively. As time passes, components wear out or become damaged, impacting engine performance. As your Lincoln dealer, we want to tell you a few signs you need to visit us for Lincoln engine maintenance.

Check Engine Light

The check engine light is the most important warning light in your vehicle, as it illuminates to alert you to an engine problem. The engine contains many different sensors, each connected to a vital component. The sensors receive instructions from your car’s computer and inform your computer of any issues with their connected component.

If something goes wrong, the relevant sensor instantly warns your computer. If the computer can’t fix the issue, it logs the problem with an error code, and the engine light switches on. If your engine light comes on, contact our service department right away so we can investigate and fix the problem. The longer an engine problem persists, the greater the possibility of serious damage.

Misfiring

Misfiring is caused by flawed combustion in one or more engine cylinders. Combustion requires fuel and air to mix in a precise ratio in the intake manifold. The resulting mixture is then drawn into the engine cylinders. The cylinders close, and the pistons rise at high speed to compress the mixture. Once the mixture is sufficiently compressed, it’s ignited by the spark plug screwed into each cylinder.

Worn spark plugs, a fuel-rich engine, or damaged ignition coils can all cause the fuel-air mixture to burn incorrectly. This can’t produce combustion and instead produces a misfire. You’ll feel a drop in engine power, your vehicle might lurch, and you’ll hear a loud noise. Continued misfiring will damage your engine. We’ll find and repair the problem, and your engine will work efficiently again.

Leaking Fluid

Your engine contains many different fluids, each of which performs an essential role in the smooth functioning of the engine. If a leak occurs, the affected system will malfunction, causing further problems. A coolant leak, for example, increases engine temperature and will cause serious, even permanent engine damage.

Most engine fluids have specific colors, like red for transmission fluid, gold for oil, and pink, blue, yellow, or green for coolant, making the problem easy to identify. Any leak must be repaired quickly to prevent damage to the affected system. We can repair any leak and replace the lost fluid to fix this problem.

These are just some of the engine issues we can repair. If your engine isn’t working correctly, contact us ASAP at Bob Maxey Lincoln in Detroit, MI.
