Even a Lincoln requires regular maintenance to ensure it always works at peak performance. Parts will inevitably wear out over time, which can result in unnecessary and avoidable repairs. As your Lincoln dealer, we want to tell you about a few of the types of Lincoln maintenance we can provide to keep your vehicle in great shape.
Alternator Replacement
The alternator generates the electricity that powers all your Lincoln’s systems. It is robust and will generally work effectively for at least eight years. As an alternator ages, it begins to slow down due to natural wear and tear. This slowdown causes a decrease in electrical production that will slowly affect every system.
If the alternator output drops to 13.5 volts or lower, the battery warning light will immediately illuminate. This is a warning that something is wrong with your electrical system. We advise contacting our service department right away. Our skilled technicians will examine your vehicle and repair or replace the alternator, depending on the extent of the problem.
Oil Change
Oil is one of the most essential fluids in your Lincoln. It lubricates hundreds of moving components, allowing them to work efficiently and protecting them against friction damage. The continual flow of oil lowers the engine temperature, while additives in the oil break down potential blockages and reduce rust. Your oil does need to be changed regularly, as older oil loses many of these benefits as time passes.
Old oil becomes thicker due to the absorption of dirt and other debris in the engine, and this can cause a blocked oil filter. Our technicians will drain the oil, then remove the old oil filter and install a new one. New oil is then added to your engine and allowed to circulate. Changing the oil is a quick process that prevents potential engine damage while improving performance.
Battery Check
Even the highest quality battery will inevitably fail. In most cases, the failure is due to the battery’s natural decline over time. The chemicals inside a battery that enable it to store and supply electricity gradually break down and become inert. This reduces the battery’s ability to store electricity and it will fail. Fortunately, it’s possible to estimate your battery’s potential remaining life relatively easily.
We can test your battery by connecting it to our battery testing machine. This machine provides an accurate readout of the battery’s remaining storage capacity and its strength. The test gives you the peace of mind of knowing your battery is healthy or a warning that it’s weakening and needs replacement. If your battery is failing, we can install a new one within minutes.
