Winter Service Tips from Box Maxey Lincoln

Here at Bob Maxey Lincoln, Inc. we all aren't strangers to wintery weather. Cold snaps, snowstorms, you name it, we've seen it. For all of us here in the greater Detroit area, it's about being prepared and knowing what to do in any situation that might arise, and our service center is here to help.

If it's frigid out and your car won't start after repeated attempts to turn the ignition and get things running, it probably means your battery has been depleted and needs a jump. If you're able to find someone with a running vehicle and jumper cables, you should make sure to follow the proper instructions on how to jump a vehicle, attaching the positive terminal to the battery (the red clips) of each vehicle, while the black negative terminals one is on the jumping vehicle's battery, while you place the one in your vehicle on unpainted metal to ground it. Then start the working vehicle and let it run, and try and start the vehicle that needs a jump. You can also reach out to many roadside assistance agencies, including our service center, and we can help you and come by with a vehicle jumper to get you going.

In addition, with the wintry weather, you want traction and grip, which is why it's a good idea to have a strong set of winter tires on your Lincoln vehicle. You'll have added confidence knowing these treads are made for driving in the snow and can help you grip the road better, while you practice safe driving habits.

Along with that, we recommend making sure your heating unit works, wiper blades are properly clearing off water and snow, and your defrosters are working as well. You should also have a snow brush and ice scraper in your vehicle, along with a shovel, first aid, and a blanket just in case you get stranded or need to dig yourself out.
